So I was actually absent from last weeks hop as we had a new arrival in the family.......

 

so cuddles with Freya took place of any work.......

 

so here is my desk, I am in the middle of sewing some trousers.

 

 

 there is a little stack of fabric waiting to be made into dresses and shorts, like these, hopefully today.

 

and I have been carrying on with my embroidery as the date for the exhibition is fast approaching!

Whants on your Workdesk Wednesday 475

Wednesday again and another chance to look around and see what other people are making. Take a look at Julia's blog Stamping Ground where you can view creative blogs form around the world.

So my desk was a bit neglected and more of a dumping ground this week!

 

So there is a new sewing machine which I bought second hand and needs to be trialled. It seems happy to join the other two already on my desk! I have multiple machines for students to use in my workshops.

 

There are some woodblocks which I am going to use to print on a bag today (hopefully) and some children's play mats which make a great surface to do this on. You can just see on the right hand side some yellow fabric which I have dyed for this. I can also see a little stitched project hiding so you may need to zoom in!

 

There is a little pile of notebooks purchased from Flying Tiger which are going to have pretty new covers. Below is a photo of some I made for my Grandson as teacher gifts. The pictures are image transfer onto cotton fabric. The original design was a paper collage I did a few years ago.

What's on your workdesk Wednesday 474

It's Wednesday again and another chance to blog hop and snoop at everyone's workspaces. WOYWW is hosted by Julia at Stamping Ground.

 

I am not sure my desk looks much different to last week really although I did do some work on Saturday which you can see in the previous post.

 

So what can you see?

 

My lovely Inktense pencils and blocks which you can colour nearly everything with and are great to carry to workshops. I was using them to colour some fabric feathers with, they are lurking in a pot at the back. I am not happy with them yet so they are on the naughty step!

 

The paints at the back are by Vintage Rocks and I am slowly collecting them, they are chalk furniture paints but seem to be adaptable for many more projects.

 

There is a pile of embroidery patches to sew on the right and lots of fabric scraps on the left. I am doing some work for a textile exhibition later in the year at RHS Hyde Hall in Essex. I have loads still to do!!

Simply Saturday

I don't know where the weeks have gone since I left my job and begun the process of setting up my business. I feel like I have spent more hours that ever at the computer and a little of my creative mojo has gone into hiding!

So I started off by making a huge mess in the studio , opening boxes and pulling things out. I knew I wanted to try and make some feathers as this has been on my mind for a long time.

I did some experimenting and found a process that I like, although the end result needs more experimenting with.

This is my desk as I pack up this evening.

I am just painting the feathers........

but I think they need more decoration or distressing yet .....

 

My new thread rack came today and I am so happy to out these threads on the wall. I love a bit of organisation!

Well it has been quite some time since I blogged so I have given my page a little revamp and thought I would kick off with WOYWW.

 

So here is my desk!

 

I was hoping that there would have been more creative activity today but time ran away with me and I have just dumped things on my desk. There are some partly made zipped purses, some threads I found at a boot sale ,and copious notes / to do lists!!

The reason for my return is that I have now found time to work creatively full time and hopefully make an income from something that I enjoy so much. I mainly teach textile workshops, working with vintage fabric finds.

I hope you like my rather messy desk today. WOYWW members I hope to visit some of you later.

Cigar boxes

I was given some cigar boxes to work a little collage magic onto. Although they were fiddly I really enjoyed covering and lining them.
