What's on your workdesk Wednesday? 256

Well here I am today, not at my desk today but at the table with my sewing machines. I have a few sewing projects to do so have spent some time cleaning, de-fluffing and oiling the machines (polishes halo!).

Now' having watched the Great British Sewing Bee I found myself lusting after an over locker which was sure to make all my sewing perfect. I convinced the family to buy me one for my birthday but when I came to order could not get the one I wanted.

Then I saw on line this machine attachment which was inexpensive and would cut and sew at the same time. I was not convinced but thought it might be worth a try.

and it does just that!
This was a furnishing fabric and was fraying quite badly.

So I made two dust covers for my machines ( I am going to keep them out and use them more, of course!). On one I used the new attachment and on the other I used the over lock stitch without the attachment. I have to say that although the cutting attachment was slower and a bit clunky it did give a much neater finish.

I have also purchased an box with 15 assorted feet for my machine that can do everything else, so brace yourselves!

  2. Hi Karen, happy WOYWW. Your machine covers look fabulous and I have a feeling I may have had a similar cutting overlocking foot with my first machine (Bernina) - sadly it has since been replaced but did many many miles for me. Have fun sewing and with all your new feet. Cheers RobynO#35

  6. what an awesome little attachment, gosh I didn't know they existed but then I can't sew my way out of a paper bag which goes to show how much I know about sewing. Love the dust covers. So are you going to get the overlocker too or just this little gizmo?

    Thanks for sharing.

  9. I'm braced and ready!! More sewing on WOYWW - yeehaaar :-)
Well, I never knew that attachment existed! Because I too lusted after an overlocker, which is ridiculous given that I'd probably never use it! Your machine covers are great and the finished edges superb :-)

  10. Who hasn't lusted over an overlock? I used to use one at university about 20 years ago and it was awesome. The thought of an attachment that actually works is amazing. Thank you for the good news.

    Happy Belated WOYWW.

  11. That's amazing - an attachment for your sewing machine that overlooks! I've had an overlocker for years, and it really is fabulous, cuts and finishes very, very neatly. Have fun playing with all those new feet :)
